One of the most important appliances in your home, air conditioners are often ignored until something goes wrong. In fact, many users mistakenly believe they are entirely maintenance free. But that is not the case. Like any machine, air conditioners must be kept clean in order to operate at or near peak performance. So, how do you keep your A/C humming on hot summer days? Here are a few simple tips.
1. Replace or clean air filters
All air conditioning units takes air from the outside, cool it down, and blast it into your home. To do so, the unit must filter out pollution, environmental allergens, and other debris. These impurities are caught by the air filter and must be removed from time to time. Failure to do so will result in a far less efficient A/C unit, which means higher cooling bills for you.
2. Clean coils
After months of inactivity, most A/C units get dirty and dusty on the inside. When this debris accumulates on the evaporator and condenser coils, it reduces airflow and their ability to absorb heat.
3. Replace broken window seals
The seal between the window frame and your air conditioner should be checked during installation. If it is loose, cracked, or damaged in any way, you must replace it.
