General AC Information
Learn More about Your Air Conditioning Unit
We enjoy our air conditioner units daily as they keep us cool in warm months and warm us during the winter season. There are many terms and descriptions about our units that play a role in choosing the right AC unit for our homes.
Call Cousin's Air, Inc. at (954) 228-5965 if you need any further assistance with determining what AC unit is ideal for your home.
- Air Conditioner Filter: Air conditioner filters keep dust and dirt from getting into the air conditioner parts and from being spread throughout your home.
- Air Conditioner Efficiency: Air conditioner efficiency depends on a number of variables that we are happy to consult with you to ensure that your AC is the right size & tonnage for your home.
- Air Conditioner Humidity: In addition to cooling your home, air conditioners also remove the humidity from the air as they filter it through your home.
- Air Conditioner kWh: A kilowatt hour (kWh) is a unit of energy equal to 1,000 watt-hours and is the unit of measurement used in calculating your electric energy bill.
- Air Conditioner Lifespan: Air conditioners have an average lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Some newer units are not only more efficient, but also have a longer life expectancy.
- Air Conditioner Power Consumption: Power consumption for air conditioners depends on the size of the unit. The size of air conditioners is calculated in British thermal units (BTUs).
- Air Conditioner Refrigerant: Refrigerant is used to cool off the air as it comes through the air conditioner coils.
- Air Conditioner Sizing: Having the right size air conditioner unit is vital to efficiency.
- Air Conditioner Temperature: Air conditioner temperature is an important aspect of the yearly operating expenses. Thermostats help control the settings of your air conditioner temperature.
- Air Conditioner Tonnage: Air conditioner power is described in terms of “tons of refrigeration” and measured by BTUs.
- Air Conditioner Unit Tax Credits: Air conditioner tax credits are no longer available as of 1/1/2014; however, check with your Cousin's Air, Inc. representative about other discounts and rebates that you might qualify for.
- Air Conditioner Zoning: Air conditioner zoning helps control the temperature in the individual rooms of your home.
- Air Conditioner BTUs: BTU stands for British Thermal Unit and is a unit of energy that we use to calculate the amount of energy needed for a task, such as cooling off your home.
- Air Conditioner Dehumidifiers: All air conditioners are dehumidifiers because they remove moisture from the air as it processes air for cooling. Dehumidifiers are also available as separate units if additional dehumidification is needed in your home.
- Ductless Air Conditioner: There are two types of air conditioners: central air conditioners that have duct work throughout the house and vents in each room and ductless air conditioners that have one air handler that is built into the wall or ceiling of one room.
- Energy Star Air Conditioners: Energy Star air conditioners are some of the most efficient air conditioners because they have met the guidelines for appliances set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency.
